The course combines authentic everyday cultural content, comprehensive grammar, and real-life functional language. It follows the guidelines for teaching and learning Arabic of the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages ACTFL and therefore covers the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with particular emphasis on speaking, structure, and vocabulary.

This course seeks to develop both fluency and accuracy in Arabic through a topic-based syllabus. Interesting topics have been chosen to provide maximum opportunities for speaking and discussion, promoting both linguistic and communicative skills.

Methodology: Students using this book will be able to: Communicate fluently, accurately and effectively in Arabic, conversing on a variety of different topics in formal and informal settings from both concrete and abstract perspectives.

Discuss their interests and special fields of competence, explain complex matters in detail, and compose lengthy and coherent narrative. Discuss their opinions on a number of topics, such as social and political issues, and employ structured arguments to support their opinions. Construct and develop hypotheses to explore alternative possibilities.

Use a variety of interactive and discourse strategies. Consistently explain their opinions or ideas in detail and narrate fully and accurately in all time frames. Course Length The material of this course provides 80 to hours of class instruction. In situations where more time is available, the teacher may use the section in each unit entitled More Culture and Chatting.

To enhance the learning process the author also provides film clips, extracts from TV programs, real life interviews, field surveys by students, and a range of suggested social issues for discussion. The teacher therefore has a wide range of materials that can be used and is able to extend or shorten the course according to the needs and preferences of the students.

Each unit is organized around a central topic or theme and is divided into two lessons that complement each other by taking the topic from a different perspective. Each lesson also provides different language functions, grammar, and structures.
